Economic Regions of the Azerbaijan Republic.
 Nakchyvan Economic Region
Nakchyvan Economic Region of Azerbaijan Republic covers the territory of autonomous republic of Nakchyvan and is located away from the other territories of Azerbaijan in enclave territory surrounded by Turkey, Iran and Armenia. As a result of Armanian occupation Nakchyvan Economic Region faced blockade and now has unfavorable economical-geographical location. Nakchyvan Economic Region covers Nakchyvan city, Babek, Julfa, Ordubad, Sadarak, Shahbuz Sharur and Kangarli administrative regions. The are of the region is 5.5 thousand km2 (6% of the territory of the country). The landscape of the region consists of Zangazur and Daralayaz range of mountains and sloping plains along Araz river. The 0.5% of the territory of the region is covered by forest.
The population of the economic region 364.5 thousand people (4.5% of the population of country). The Nakchyvan Economic Region has rich natural resources like molybdenum, polymetallic ore, rock-salt, dolomite, marble, construction materials (travertine, construction stone, gypsum). Furthermore the economic region has more than 200 precious mineral water springs like Badamli, Sirab, Vaikhir, etc. All molybdenum resources and 60% of mineral water resources of Azerbaijan Republic are in Nakchyvan Economic Region.

Nakchyvan Economic Region has developing industry and comprehensive agriculture. 2.6% of industrial production and 3.6% of agricultural production of the Azerbaijan belongs to this region. More than half of the industrial product of the economic region and 35% of industrial-production personnel is concentrated in the Nakchyvan industrial area. Electroenergetics (Araz hydroelectric power plant), electrical engineering (Nakchyvan), aluminium vessels, furniture (Nakchyvan), vehicle repair (Shahbuz) are main enterprises of the economy of the region. Construction materials industry is presented by metal-cement structures (Nakchyvan, Sharur), facing material plants, sand-gravel quarry. Light and food industry are very important for the economy of the region. In Nakchyvan more than 7% of the industrial production is from food industry, 10% from light industry. The light industry of the region is represented by sewing (Nakchyvan, Julfa), spinning (Ordubad), carpet weaving, knitted-good production (Nakchyvan), and the food industry of the region is represented by canning plant (Ordubad, Sharur), tobacco-fermentation, mineral water bottling and fish plant (Nakchyvan, Shahbuz, Sharur).

Different agrarian climate zones of the region enable the multi-sectoral development of the agriculture. Husbandry is developing using artificial watering. Reservoirs created on the Araz river and its branches are used for watering the tillage areas.
Main sectors of the agriculture are vine-growing, tobacco-growing, fruit-growing and grain-growing. Nakchyvan Economic Region is second tobacco-growing region of Azerbaijan. Also sugar beet, henna, vegetables, flowers are grown in the region. Cattle-breeding for meat-diary products, sheep-breeding for meat-wool products and for diary products, bee-keeping are the main sectors of cattle-breeding.

At present Nakchyvan Economic Region has no railway connection with other regions of Azerbaijan Republic. The only ways are airway and motorway through Iran. The power supply of Nakchyvan Economic Region is conducted through Turkey and Iran.
Nakchyvan is ancient cultural center and has large socio-cultural infrastructura. There are many historical monuments along with institutions of National Academy of
Sciences of Autonomous Republic, secondary, specialized and music schools, cultural-educational and health organizations and museums.
