Kalbajar – Lachin Economic Region covers Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, Gubadli regions. The area of the region is 7.5% of the area of the country and more than 2% of population of country lives here. It’s hard to establish big enterprises, transportation routes and build relations with other regions because mountains dominate the landscape of the region.
Main sector of the regions economy is agriculture and especially cattle-breeding. Poultry, cattle-breeding, bee-keeping, tobacco-growing, vine-growing, fruit-growing, grain-growing are more developed sectors of the agriculture. There are favorable conditions for husbandry in Zangilan, Gubadli administrative regions and in flood-lands of river. Industrial enterprises mainly rely on processing of these raw material types. Meat-diary products have been processed and carpets weaved in the economic region.
Economic Region has natural resources like gold, mercury, chromate, marble, facing construction stone, coral, perlite etc. Mineral springs like Istisu, Minkand, Tutgunchai, favorable climate-balneal conditions, mountain forests can be used for resort-recreation purposes.
A Special program on socio-economic development of the administrative regions covered by Kalbajar-Lachin Economic Region, which currently are under Armenian occupation will be developed and implemented, when these territories will be returned to Azerbaijan.
